We have been a family member for 9 years. I can still remember going to Pengwern and ringing the CADCAF bell for the first time for a music workshop and the friendly welcome that we received.
As a family we have grown in confidence with CADCAF. Both Jonathan and Andrew attend the after school club. Jonathan has achieved hitting the golf ball over longer distances, not using the tenpin bowling bridge, getting used to a dog being around at the horse riding school and improving greatly riding a peddle bike in the sailing sessions.
Andrew has achieved hitting the golf ball and staying with the group after his turn at tenpin bowling and not running off to play some where else. All little things but major achievements for the boys.
We have had a lot of pleasure going on the coach trips over the years it is so nice not to have to drive for a day (as I drive all the time). Some places we have been to we would not have gone to because of the distance eg. Legoland.
Andrew looks forward to the coach trips every holiday and it is good going with a group. Over the years the CADCAF activities have expanded and made the school holidays more enjoyable and we do not feel isolated.
About five years ago I was asked to go on the Committee which has helped my confidence in speaking out to have my say and put my points forward. I also help out in the office when I can, Jan (our wonderful Chairperson) gives me small jobs to do which I enjoy. I also go into the office for source of information and it is no trouble for Julie or Emma to speak on my behalf on the telephone.
When I was having personal problems it was great to know that CADCAF was there and to be able to go in and just talk to someone; it meant a lot to me.
CADCAF has been our lifeline over the years and I would like to thank the Committee and staff for all their good work and to all that give donations to keep the group running. We are so lucky to have a support group like this in our district, some are not so lucky which has given me the inspiration to write this story.
